Quickfire 2nd Rd Mock Draft

After yesterdays excitement there's still a fair few 1st round graded guys on the draft boards of many teams. Expect some trading of places here as teams begin to jump for 1st round rated prospects early on Day Two. There may be some further fall-out on the trade front with the Kyler Murray selection paving the way for Josh Rosen to switch allegiances and some rumours of the Texans shopping Javeon Clowney although with the 1st round out of the way I see a deal here now less enticing.

Here's my quickfire mock of how Day Two could progress......

33 - Arizona Cardinals - OT Jawaan Taylor (Florida)

The Cards have made the investment in Kyler Murray, they've got to protect their QB better than 2018 or provide him more weapons. Taylor was ranked as the top OT by some and wasn't expected to be here. He can look a bit ugly at times, so maybe the reason for the fall, but he's arguably the most powerful lineman available.

34 - Indianapolis Colts (via NY Jets) - S Deionte Thompson (Alabama)

The pick could be secondary or receiving weapon. I had the Colts taking Deionte Thompson at #26, I've no reason to believe the trade down changes their selection

35 - Oakland Raiders - CB Byron Murphy (Washington)

The Raiders went for character guys in Rd1 with Ferrell, Jacobs and Abram. Most obvious needs are possibly CB and TE.

36 - San Francisco 49ers - WR D.K Metcalf (Mississippi)

They badly need a WR1 and no guarantee of getting one here, but I think it's time for them to aim for the stars and try. Huge potential via the physically imposing D.K Metcalf

37 - Seattle Seahawks (via NY Giants) - S Taylor Rapp (Washington)

The Seahawks are tough to predict, I'd say secondary or O-line unless they double down on the D-Line. I'm sticking with the local boy I predicted as their 1st round pick.

38 - Jacksonville Jaguars - WR A.J Brown (Mississippi)

The 1st round shown the Jaguars would pick best player available. They still need help on offense though and should consider OL/WR/TE

39 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - CB Greedy Williams (LSU)

Question marks over his tackling dropped his stock but many have him as the best CB in the class. In the NFC South you need a pass rush and you've got to be able to cover WR's.

40 - Buffalo Bills - OT Greg Little (Mississippi)

The Bills have to start protecting their promising young QB. Little has bags of potential upside.

41 - Denver Broncos - QB Drew Lock (Missouri)

John Elway loves Drew Lock. Yes Flacco is in Denver but it's been a while since he's been a top end starter. Surely he won't be able to resist here. Lock should be given a year or two to iron out his footwork.

42 - Cincinnati Bengals - DT Dre'Mont Jones (Ohio State)

They've got to start addressing the defense and the D-line is starting to get long in the tooth. Jones is one of my favourite prospects, Ohio State didn't miss Bosa much once he went down, due in large part to this guy. He also figures to stay in State with this pick.

43 - Detroit Lions - CB Rock Ya-Sin (Temple)

The Lions have whiffed on a few guys to play opposite Darius Slay. Ya-Sin will get an opportunity.

44 - Green Bay Packers - OG/OT Cody Ford (Oklahoma)

The interior of the O-line needs upgrade. Ford was expected to be a 1st rounder. Primarily a Tackle in college, though maybe more suited at Guard in the pros. Good fit, excellent value here.

45 - LA Rams (via Atlanta) - OG/C Dalton Risner (Kansas State)

Saffold left in free agency, Blythe is a weak link and Sullivan was released. Whilst the Rams would like to find an heir for Andrew Whitworth at Tackle, there's immediate needs on the interior. Risner has versatility to play all 3 interior spots.

46 - Indianapolis Colts (via Washington) - DE Zach Allen (Boston College)

All starters on the Colts D-Line are over 30. Chris Ballard can add some youth to the mix here.

47 - Carolina Panthers - OT Bobby Evans (Oklahoma)

Maybe a reach, but they need to upgrade their O-line

48 - Miami Dolphins - EDGE Jaylon Ferguson (Louisiana Tech)

This pick may be heading Arizona's way for Josh Rosen but if not, I see the Dolphins taking a gamble with Ferguson who despite a poor Senior Bowl posted 45 sacks in his 4 years for the Bulldogs

49 - Cleveland Browns - S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Florida)

Could be O-line but Jabrill Peppers departed in the OBJ trade and CGJ can be an immediate replacement

50 - Minnesota Vikings - TE Irv Smith Jr (Alabama)

I think they'd prefer a DT but the value isn't here in the 2nd round now. I suspect a pass catcher will be targeted instead. Smith has seam splitting speed and could be paired with Kyle Rudolph before eventually replacing him.

51 - Tennessee Titans WR J.J Arcega-Whiteside (Stanford)

Mariota needs more weapons to give him a chance to shine in an important contract year for both the QB and the franchise.

52 - Denver Broncos (via Pittsburgh) OC Erik McCoy (Texas A&M)

Positional need addressed

53 - Philadelphia Eagles (via Baltimore) S Nasir Adderley (Delaware)

Positional depth need for the Eagles. Philadelphia native. 4 year starter in college (2 at CB, 2 at FS), Level of competition is a huge step up but he's a hitter with natural instincts. Draft sleeper.

54 - Houston Texans (via Seattle) OG Connor McGovern (Penn State)

Following a league worst 62 sacks the Texans double down on the O-line with their second pick of the draft.

55 - Houston Texans CB Kendall Sheffield (Ohio State)

Bit leftfield this one, but the Texans lack speed in the secondary and Sheffield is a track star who has significant upside.

56 - New England Patriots (via Chicago) EDGE Anthony Nelson (Iowa)

The Pats seem to like tall edge rushers and Nelson at 6'7 fits the bill nicely.

57 - Philadelphia Eagles WR Hakeem Butler (Iowa State)

With the D-line value here reduced due to the run on players so far, the Eagles prepare to add depth to the receiving corps with rumours of moving on from Nelson Agholor. Butler is a huge target at 6'6 and whilst not a burner is a good route runner. He posted over 1300 yards in his last year in college at 22 yards/catch.

58 - Dallas Cowboys S Amani Hooker (Iowa)

The Cowboys need a long term answer at TE but with the top 4 TE's in the class gone they may turn to ultra aggressive Safety Amani Hooker to compete with the underwhelming Jeff Heath.

59 - Indianapolis Colts CB Amani Oruwariye (Penn State)

The Colts secondary played a lot of soft coverage last year to protect their corners. They could use a little more aggressive schemes with the help of Oruwariye on board.

60 - Los Angeles Chargers ILB Mack Wilson (Alabama)

The Chargers continue to solidify the middle of their defense.

61 - Kansas City Chiefs EDGE Oshame Ximines (Old Dominion)

The Chiefs continue to re-model their defense in the mould of Steve Spagnuolo. His success for the Giants was built around a heavy D-line rotation and here they get a great value pick in Ximines who will likely start off as a 3rd down speed rusher for KC.

62 - New Orleans Saints WR Kelvin Harmon (North Carolina State)

After Michael Thomas there is a large drop-off at the WR position in New Orleans. Harmon was a big play waiting to happen at NC State.

63 - Kansas City Chiefs (via LA Rams) WR Parris Campbell (Ohio State)

With the future of Tyreek Hill uncertain the Chiefs could look to add Parris Campbell as insurance. A trackstar with impressive flat-out speed and electric acceleration, he also has instinctive open field moves. He's raw with unpolished route running skills and consequently inconsistent but a home under the wing of Andy Reid would be an ideal fit for both parties.

64 - New England Patriots CB Trayvon Mullen (Clemson)

With Devin McCourty and Jonathan Jones in contract years, the Pats can add some insurance here with Defensive MVP of the national title game Trayvon Mullen
